The Virgin Islands |

Get ready for one of the most enjoyable vacations that you have experienced. It is highly recommended that you start relaxing NOW. The pace is so slow (How slow is it?) that rumor has it turtles get bored. Well anyway, be prepared to be very patient. No one and I mean NO ONE, get in a hurry. Well, maybe a few tourists on the first day of their first trip.
Warning A word of WARNING! Paradise is addictive. It will certainly be GOOD for your health. I hope that you enjoy "The ISLANDS" as much as Janis and I. Relax, don’t burn, be patient, and don't listen to folks who tell you to relax, ... etc.
No Problem Mon!
Bare-boat Charter Bare-boat charter is the preferred mode of island travel. Originally, the Islands were designed to be viewed from the sea. You'll see what I mean when you get there. This is especially true of the British Virgins.
The Virgin Islands The Carib Indians would have probably disputed Chris Columbus’s claim of discovering the Virgin Islands. Actually, the Caribs were not the first inhabitants. They ate the Arawaks who have occupied the islands for several hundred years. The Spanish then proceeded to completely wipe out the Carib Indians.
Columbus probably named this gorgeous island chain after seeing the peaks of Virgin Gorda. Chris must have had a great imagination. Remember, they had been at sea for a long time.
After the Indians and the Spaniards, the stewardship of the islands changed hand between the Dutch, British, French, Danes and the US.
The VI once produced salt, sugar and other crop goods for sale in Europe and England. The VI became a major trade route for commerce between Europe, Africa and the Americas. Unfortunately, this commerce included the slave trade and transport of criminals to the islands. Many of the Virgin Islanders are descendents of former plantation slaves.
The Virgin Islands are of volcanic origin except for Anegada which is a coral atoll. Anegada is off limits to most bareboat charter sailors. The shallow coral reefs that surround Anegada have claimed many prizes over the centuries and continue to do so today.
